Google for many years has offered different types of targeting with Gmail ads, however, they have confirmed that they will no longer scan emails for keywords.
The removal of Gmail adverts will come into place later this year, Diane Greene from Google, commented: “Consumer Gmail content will not be used or scanned for any ads personalization after this change.”
This won’t be the end of data collection as we all know that Google most probably has new innovative ways to gain more details about our user habits.
Where is data collected from?
- Search history
- Visited websites
- Videos watched via YouTube
- Display adverts that are clicked on
- Location with connected devices
Google, is not alone on the many ways of data collection, Facebook and Apple all have similar practices when searching the internet.
